Can I go? I really want to go! Dating a classmate may have the same emotional complications of dating a co-worker. When the couple splits, they have to continue to see each other in class and perhaps witness the ex-partner dating someone else. It is reasonable to think this scenario could be linked to depression and divert attention from studying. Perhaps the findings from a recent study from the Journal of Research on Adolescence might help you find your answer.

If your middle school child wants to start dating, you might think twice. A recent study of teens living in northeast Georgia found that early dating interferes with school success and leads to other bad things. The Healthy Teens Longitudinal Study followed over students for seven years, from the sixth through 12th grades. It looked at frequency of dating in relationship to high school dropout rates and teacher ratings of study skills.
The findings were published in the Journal of Research on Adolescence. Some students never or hardly ever dated from middle school through high school and these students had the best study skills. Throughout the study, students who dated more were rated by teachers as having worse study skills. The earlier and more frequently a child dated, especially starting in middle school, the more likely he or she was to have used alcohol or drugs.

Editorial: Dating in the Middle School
So why do it? We accept that, thanks to hormones, people have crushes, or romantic feelings directed to someone in particular. Dating is a term mostly used by adults who are looking for someone to share their lives with. But as much as we write off, ignore, deny, or just plain oppose it, we are all children. What even happens in a middle school relationship?
Simply being labeled as someone’s boyfriend or girlfriend is confirmation that one is enough. In middle school, kids are much more interested.
This post brought to you by Northpointe Christian School. Middle school kids are really too young to be doing anything remotely close to dating. However, this is the time when boys and girls start getting interested in one another. So here are my suggestions for ways to keep this tumultuous time under control. I think I am in the huge minority because I have waited until my son is actually almost 13 to allow him to watch a PG movie. I know, I am such a dud of a mom.

Dating In Middle School is Hard
You have a point but I also agree with another person that said if you’re 16 and younger then it’s not a relationship because you’re testing out these new emotions with crushes and stuff. I know people who are older than me who have been dating since they were 16 or 17 and still happy in their relationship. Those are the type of relationships that could but I never had.
No, we were engaged, she broke it off, met my now wife a few months later then the ex tried to get me back. Shouldn’t have let me go bitch
Dating can also be a distraction from school, homework, athletics and, most importantly, the Lord. It’s fine to have guy friends, but 11, 12, 13 and even 14 is still.
Do you want to start dating in middle school? I think the idea of whether or not you should date in middle school is very pressing question for people who are in middle school. When I was in middle school, there were girls that I liked and talked to, but I never really started going out with anyone. I think there are a few things you have to look at when it comes to dating someone in middle school, but one of the biggest ones is; is it gonna interfere with your schoolwork?
But you really have to think about that and ask yourself, will you have the time to dedicate to someone else and be able to manage all your schoolwork? I want to help answer some questions you may have about living out your Christian life and walk of faith! We want PI to be a safe place where you can ask questions. A PI Girl asked about what to do when friends in her class want to date in seventh grade. She mentions that she sees no point in her friends dating because it only lasts about one to two months, if that, plus middle-schoolers typically do not marry the people they date.
So, when my friends slip into it, what do I tell them? First off, I completely agree with this PI Girl.
All of which I’ve either heard during my middle school or equivalent years. This sums it What is your opinion on middle school dating? I heard someone else on Quora describe the differences between junior and senior high school dating.
You choke on your coffee just a little bit as your mind starts to race. You try to compose yourself as much as possible as you watch your sweet little middle schooler blush, say goodbye to this unknown human boy and walk toward your car. This is a good opportunity to share your values, perspectives and hopes. If you react reasonably, with a willingness to learn and be flexible, your child will trust your judgment and continue to seek your advice as the issues around dating become increasingly complex.

If dating is firmly not allowed at this age in your household, talk with your child about why they want to date now. Understanding their perspective on this issue will help you parent them more effectively.
Why Middle School Dating Doesn’t Make Sense
Dating people who go to your school always brings unnecessary drama. The moment two teens at school decide they are a couple, everyone else is in the relationship too. This is why it’s so much better to date someone who goes to a different school. You don’t have to constantly hear about your boyfriend getting a little too close to that girl in his third-period class. Nor do you have to worry about that guy who keeps trying to make a move on your girlfriend during lunch while you sit in physics class.
When two people date at school, others always want to know what you and your boo did over the weekend, or they want to talk about what their status was on Facebook last night. Basically, when you date someone inside your school, you hear more about your relationship from other people than from your significant other. Some people may argue that being in a relationship with someone from another school is more complicated because you can’t see what they are doing or who they are with.
But if trust is an issue, then maybe there’s a bigger problem at hand.
Girl to Girl Talk: Middle-School Dating…Is It Too Young?
If you were anything like me, your massive, octagonal-shaped purple Walmart glasses no exaggeration , frizzy hair and garish braces didn’t exactly bring around any pint-sized gentlemen callers. Nope, middle school boyfriends were a hot commodity, and not for the likes of my awkward ass. And although we already know that junior high school dating was a major drama-fest that certainly distracted from our studies the number of times I comforted a crying friend in the girls’ bathroom during class!
UGA’s research, drawn from following a group of students over a seven-year period from sixth to 12th grade, found that kids who began dating in middle school had worse study skills, were four times more likely to drop out of school and reported twice as much alcohol, tobacco and weed use than their single counterparts. Of the kids studied, 38 percent reported dating at each point of the survey, and 22 percent at “high middle school.

Starting middle school is an exciting new adventure. You’ll make new friends and meet a lot of girls. Perhaps you have your eye on someone and you would like to make her your girlfriend. Take it step by step and before you know it, she’ll realize how special you are, too. It might be the start of a great romance, or maybe just a great friendship, but you’ll definitely stand out from the rest of the guys your age. You can’t get the girl if she doesn’t know you exist.
Be deliberate and creative, and before you know it, she’ll take notice. It is important to be yourself when trying to get a girlfriend. If you are dishonest about who you are, she will eventually see that and will be hurt that you lied to her. Plus, you don’t want a girl who doesn’t like the real you, do you?
